CFP: CARLDIG-South 2015 Fall Program (December 4, 2015 - CSU Channel Islands)

CARLDIG-South 2015 Fall Program

Reference Rising: Problem-Solving Challenges
and Opportunities in Reference Programming

CARLDIG-South is hosting its annual fall program on Friday, December 4, 2015 at California State University, Channel Islands, from 9-1:30 p.m. The program theme is “Reference Rising: Problem-Solving Challenges and Opportunities in Reference Programming.” Librarians work continuously to adapt to new cultures of learning and demonstrate their value in the face of the many - sometimes overwhelming - number of information tools/resources accessible to patrons. CARLDIG-South invites librarians to join us for a half-day workshop in collaborative problem-solving, where attendees will learn about and discuss innovative methods in reference services.

Have you ever tried to bring new reference programming into your library only to have it go unexpectedly wrong? Did you implement a new way of conducting the reference interview and learn something new about your students and faculty? How have you adapted to keep reference services thriving in the competitive information resources environment? How has your library come together to overcome the inevitable obstacles that arise from experimentation?

The CARLDIG-South group would love to hear from you! Come share your stories with an eager audience of your peers as we gain inspiration to continue to evolve reference services to address the changing information needs of our users. Submitted proposals will be subject to a peer-review process. If you are interested in presenting at this year’s CARLDIG-South “Reference Rising: Problem-Solving Challenges and Opportunities in Reference Programming” program, please email a proposal of no more than 500 words as a Word or PDF attachment to Lettycia Terrones, CARLDIG-South Chair, at lterrones@fullerton.edu .

Please choose from the following formats:

Formats:
  • Presentation - 30 minute sessions
Presentation describes reference programming initiative along with problem-solving approaches. Make it as interactive as you dare and show us what you did! 20 minutes presentation with a 10 minute Q&A to follow.

  • Lightning Round - 10 minute sessions
Lightning Rounds describe an overview of your reference programming initiative or idea, with attention to practical tools or recommendations for solutions. Please include complementing visual aids.

  • Poster - 30 minute session
Poster presentations will occur during the 30 minute program break. Have something you’re excited to share but not enough for an entire presentation? Show off a poster of your project with a chance to share and answer your colleagues’ questions. Posters may describe a reference service or programming initiative and approaches for problem-solving in reference services.

Please include the following information with your submission:
Name(s) of presenter, with primary contact name, institution, title, phone number, email.
Title of proposal.
Preferred format. Also, please indicate flexibility to participate in alternate format.

Note: While the call for proposals offers sample presentation topics, please feel free to submit a proposal if your specific program audience differs from those mentioned, but is relevant to the theme of overcoming obstacles in reference programming implementation.

The deadline for submitting proposals is September 21, 2015. All individuals submitting proposals will be notified no later than October 30, 2015.

We appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you!
